NEED HELP with COMPUTER CONFIGURATION for DAW

When I hook up the mixer to my computer, the inputs are so strong that they clip all the time. On the software, the only choices for inputs are right and left microphone USB CODEC. I've tried different software and a different interface device. I think I need a line level signal as input instead of microphone. It must be a computer configuration issue; but, I can't figure it out! HELP!!!
 
Hi Ira

You haven't said which OS you are using, or which soundcard you have on your pc (or is it a Mac?). If its a pc, then you can often set the input 3.5mm jack as either mic (5mV) or line (500mV) input. Get back to me with some info, and I'll see if I can help.
 
Sounds like you're running line level signals into a microphone level input but bassman's right, we need more info.
