Want to pick an audio interface for my microphone, is ESI U46 XL recording interface a good choice?

I want to use with the microphone Shure KSM9 and directly connect with the computer. For home studio recording, do i need anything else beside the Audio interface?

Does this interface include the preamp and the converter?

also what's the difference between the sound card and an audio interface?

Also since my microphone need to use phantom power, and on the manual of the interface it says:
If you use a microphone that requires phantom power, especially with a laptop computer, it’s strongly recommended to use a DC +9V/500mA adapter (not included). When you turn on U46 XL or when you turn on/off phantom power, the current peak level might go over 500mA.

I am a bit worry, because I have checked and can't find an adapter according to it's description...

Thanks for your help, it 's quite confusing.

Interface

I will see if I can help a Little here... NOt a Pro...but have done a small amount of Computer Recording...

First..The Major Difference I believe between a Sound Card and an Interface..is that the Sound Card has to be mounted on your Mother Board in order to Work...the INterface is attached to the computer via a Cable.. Usually USB..

I have been using the M Audio Mobile Pre for my Interface and I have had really good luck with it.... it has 2 XLR Mic Inputs, Phantom Power and a lot of flexibility....You can check it out at:http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB.html

I hope this helps out a little

First off.... Great choice with the mic.

The ESI U46 XL has one phantom powered mic input, acts as a pre-amp and an A/D converter. However the phantom power situation does not sound good. There are plenty of interfaces that will run phantom power when connected to a laptop.

I use a lexicon omega and it also functions as my soundcard...i have monitors plugged in through the monitor/line out's. i think it works well for my purposes.

Thanks a lot for your guys' help, it's really helpful, I think I will pick the absolutely bus powered M-Audio interface, it's just too risky to to buy a interface but can't use it's phantom power. :)
