Hi, I haven't been to this forum in a while.. But I need some help!!

I'm familiar with recording with outboard recorders like fostex/akai. I just recently got interested in going the pc route. I'm trying to figure out what all I'll need. It seems like this route is has the most versatility with the least amount of money involved. my friend has a MAC G3 with a digi 002 setup.

I have a pc, which is not that great right now, but can be upgraded.

its an AMD athlon processor 900mhz i believe... 512mb ram... 40gig hd...

I have N-track studio, Adobe Audition, Cubase, and a buttload of plugins, including amplitube, antares mic modeler and autotune, and tons of reverbs, compressors and what not.

what else do I need?

basically.. I'm going to be recording screamo/posthardcore type music which is typically, drums, 2 guitars, bass and one or more vocals. I'm trying to figure out how to record drums and have each drum on a seperate track. I'll be recording one part at a time, and I have access to sm57's and 58's.

What do I need?

57s and 58s are not gonna help you much on drums. You can use 2 57s on the snare (top + bottom), but you'll need at least one kick mic and 2 overheads. Tom and hihat mics are nice aswell, but not 100% essential (although some might dissagree with me). You'll need as many preamps as mics your gonna use, which is typically around when your doing drums. The digi 002 has some preamps, but not 8 I think. You'll have to check that. Then you need a bunch of cables and stands and your set. That is provided you have a decent drummer, kit, and room available.

I'm thinking roughly 1000 bucks should be a good for a decent start. Don't go cheap and buy a superlux drum mic kit for 200 bucks.

emomusician, you mentioned your computer, your plugins, your available mics. What recording soundcard/interface are you using, or plan to buy? If you want to record drums, the more ins, the better.

thats the thing... i don't know whats good and whats not good to buy.. thats why i asked.. lol
