Need help w/ ADAT to Motu828 to Logic Express 9

I recently found some old ADAT tapes that are very special to me. I want to remix them. I'm a drummer that knows very little about this equipment. I need to send the ADAT to the Motu828 then into my Macbook with Logic Express 9. I'm confused on how to do it because I can even get sound out of the headphone jack when the ADAT is going straight into the Motu.
Here's how I have it set up. Out from the ADAT optical out to the optical in of the Motu, then I have firewire connecting the Motu to the computer.
Am I way off??? Can someone please run me through this step by step? It would be very much appreciated!!! Maybe take me from the ADAT to the Motu first so I can at least hear it from the headphone jack.

First thing I'd ask then is just how far back in this trouble shooting do we need to go? A new setup? Maybe you've never gotten any sound in or out for all we know.
I've never touched the Motu, but enough to ask; ADAT out? Light coming out the other end? (Hey you never know ADAT in at the Motu. Is the Motu set to see the adat input? Does it show signal there. Clock source may need to be set for the external in as well (at least during the transfer.

The laptop and Logic- Ever get sound in from the Motu from other inputs? Or playback? Do you have the Motu in's and out's showing and selected in Logic.
