Need help settingup

Ok, first, for equipment, I'm using 2 Echo 20-bit laylas, running into my computer, and a mx-9000 beringher board. My question is, can I have the mic xlrs always set up in the MIC inputs, with the direct outs of those channels going into the layla inputs, but then have the layla outputs running back in to the LINE inputs, so all ave to do for mixing, instead of having to constntly switch cables and plugs around, is push the mic/line button down or up? Does this make sense?
