Hi all,

This is as newbie as it will get! hehe

I've gotten myself a Behringer Eurorack MX1604A mixer, Audio Technica 'Bite' Microphone today and just realised i have no cables! Now before i run out and get the cables... wondering if you guys can help confirm if i'm on the right track or not...

1) I need to buy an XLR (XLR connectors on both end) cable to plug the mic into the mixer.

2) A 1/4" to 1/8" cable??? To plug mixer into Sound Blaster Live! Value card (Line-in jack)??? Is that right? and why is there a left & right output... is that only for stereo recording?

I have no idea... so please be kind people. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Right, the cables you have in mind are correct. XLR for the microphone and 1/4" to 1/8" for the connection of the soundcard. Left and right output on the mixer is for your monitor speakers.

Hope that helps and enjoy :)

Are the XLR cables the only ones that support phantom power? Because i just found a spare XLR to 1/4" cable, but it doesn't work with the mic? Or you do you have to buy specific phantom powered cables?

You need XLR-XLR cables for ANY microphone, phantom powered or not. Any XLR-XLR cable will work with phantom power.

Did you turn on the phantom power on your mixer?

Yeh i definitely had phantom power turned on... unless theres something else that i was missing?

I think that cable was for a non-phantom powered mic... a dodgy $5 one from the bargain store.
