I can record with two mics, but when i try to add a third track, it goes back to the 2nd input instead of the third...

Can someone help?

well you can start by downloading the Firepod template for cubase LE, i believe it's on Presonus' website.

just make sure you have the record input of that track routed correctly. if you are using channel 3 on the firepod, make sure you have the input of track three in Cubase set to ch3 on the 'pod. default settings in Cubase LE might just switch between input 1 and 2 for alternating tracks, so you would have to set it up manually to get channels 3-8 to input into Cubase properly.

also make sure that Cubase is using the Presonus ASIO driver.

how would I check to see if they are routed correctly?

well on the left of the track, check what the IN and OUT settings are. you should be able to click where it says IN and change it to any one of the 8 channels from the Firepod. i don't have my Firepod hooked up to this computer right now, since im at work, but it should be as simple as that.

make sure to go to the Devices tab, click on Device Setup. then go to where it says VST Multitrack, and make sure the Presonus ASIO driver is enabled.

You may also have to expand the bus window...not sure where it is under le...there was a thread on this somewhere else...lemme check.

Had *exact same problem* out of the box. I did everything I was supposed to, all the drivers correct, etc.

Here was the solution: You have to hold the shift (or wait, was it control... oh well, try both) when selecting another track....kind of like when you're selecting files in any windows program.

That will keep it from toggling away from the ones that you have already selected to record.

My friend came over this Christmas and figured this out for me. We had 8 tracks going, just testing with one mic sequentially in every port, and it was all good. I am recording my band tomorrow for the first time, and can report back how it goes. (going to be using the spdif port, I hope...!)

thx, i figured it out, i had to activate the other channels

ok, so I went to record today and had zero luck. same thing. the shift key was useful, but it was not the thing that was causing my original problem.

I eventually figured out the path to activating the other inputs, but heck if I can remember what I did to get to that menu. It wasn't the drivers, and it wasn't in devices->vst inputs, either.

Was there some talk of expanding the VST window that displays the inputs? Just that you have to enlarge it to see all the inputs listed.

^ya, thats what I had to do, just scroll down.

If anyone could answer my other topic, Id really appreciate it!

Yes, that was one thing I tried, and it would not let me. So I minimized cubase and clicked around in Control Panel until I found something that let me turn on the other inputs.... I think it was in control panel ->audio devices... I clicked and scrolled thru so many durn menus!

Only after activating them there could I grab the bottom of that VST window and pull it down to activate the other inputs in cubase.

Not looking forward to doing all that again whenever I get a new computer!

Thats odd..I'll have to remember all this because I really like the loo of the firepod/firestudio. Hmm. Very strange.

don't get me wrong, I like the firepod. I have limited experience, but a good ear, and the preamps are clean and musical, and the build quality is good. Everything is solid, nothing feels too cheap for what it costs...

It's just that in the rush of getting the thing up and running with my band all sitting around and my wife waiting in the house for us to get done so I can help with the newborn and 2 year old.... i completely forgot in the rush what the heck I clicked to get it running. More my fault than steinberg's/presonus's.

The cubase manual is pretty useless to me, though. I wish they published different versions-- like "the one for people who used to use portastudios" (that would be me) and "the one for midi-knowledgeable/using people" etc.

I wish it came with a "loo..." there's none in my studio!

Obi-Wan, I think you're looking for Control Panel > Device Setup or something like that. Where you can see all the busses- inputs, outputs, auditions, etc. By default, at least on my Firebox, only the Main Inputs 1 & 2 are active. You create a new bus and select Inputs 3&4, 5&6, and so on.
