need help Mixing down to computer

hey i want to mix down to a computer i need to know what i need as in soft ware and cables i want a soft ware that gets rid of tape hiss and is is'nt that expenise if anyone could help i would realy be gratefull

Mixdown from what? To what kind of soundcard in your computer? Then you'll know what kind of cables you need.

Cool Edit has hiss reduction, and isn't expensive. Check out n-Track, too. I don't know if it does hiss reduction, but it's real cheap.

I don't know what you consider expensive, or how many tracks you need to dump, but Sound Forge is also very good.
