ok, this should be a snap for someone, I was asked to do some sound stuff for a club local to me, it's just to pipe music into a conference room for dinner, all i have to hook to is a mic plug in the wall, I have a cheapo mixer, and a cd player, can i go from the rca's out from my mixer into a mic plug provided by the hotel? i don't have access to the amp at all, it will be on, thats all i get from them. can someone tell me if this is doable.

Can you get in there early to try it? Their system should have provision to plug in a line level source, which is much your mixer will provide.

You want to put audio from your mixer into a house PA system via their mic input? Does your mixer have a mono mic level output? I have an old Mackie 1202 that does. If so, that's how you'd want to feed this. If not, I'd go for a balanced mono line level out of some kind from the mixer and watch the output levels as they'll be HOT. One thing you must be aware of is how their mic system is wired. A lot of gear is wired PIN 1 shield, PIN 2 hot and PIN 3 return but there's a fair amount of gear out there wired PIN 2 return and PIN 3 hot. Be prepared to deal with that.
