need help determining which soundcard for my music...........

hey there! i use a Sequential Circuits synthesizer and want to use it in MIDI and also i use a mic for vocals. I've heard that the Audiophile 24/96 is my best bet, but i just wanted to make sure. i have a simple setup, so i just need a MIDI I/O and digital in for the mic. thanks for the help y'all! PEACE!

I do have an Audiophile 2496 in my DAW and it rocks for MIDI. The thing you should look for when shopping for an audiocard that can hook your outboard MIDI gear is "low latency". It's the amount of delay that your card is adding to the MIDI and audio stream. Anything above 20 msec is unusable tmo and under 10 msec is preferable, again tmo. The available drivers are also an issue with this, look for ASIO support for the OS that you use.
The 2496 does around 10 msec on my machine (dual AMD MP2000+, WinXP Pro, ASIO drivers).

DAW: Digital Audio Workstation aka Computer with soundcard and other periferals that enables you to record and edit music.
 
I think DAW could also be those all in one boxes that have a mixer, editor, hard drive disk and effects.....lika mini studio in a box

Dude thanks for all the help guys, thats very assuring.
Hey BDGR............i got a Sixtrack.........its great for the mimilist stuff i do...the poly sounds aren't too great though, i would like to find something better in that department to complement it, but the mono sounds are super sweet to me. great bass and leads. would like to get something better for pads though. any suggestions? :) thanks again, peace out

There are no stupid questions tmo ;)

In my case the DAW is indeed a computersystem that I build myself. In most cases when we talk about a DAW we mean that it is a dedicated system, so you don't play games or such on a DAW. Basically tou try to get it as stable as possible for audio work.

Well, it's just a sidenote.

I used to have one of those...I think I still have the manual for one in PDF format...maybe...

I sold it when I got my Microwave XT...If you can afford one, get it, but the Six track is not a bad beasty at all....But once you play a Microwave, you find the six track just kinda sits there and collects dust....

Another good but often overlooked used analog for pads is the Akai AX80. I still have one of those. Makes a not half bad controller too...
