Hi all, I need some assistance. I play drums and would like to start recording however I have no experience whatsoever when it comes to recording and gear. All the research I've done has brought me to the following interfaces....focusrite 18i20......presonus audio box 1818....and the M audio M track 8.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.lol...I hope I posted this in the right place.

I currently have a iMac 10.11 "captain"

Thanks

I'm assuming that, from mention of drums and the size of interfaces you're looking at, you want to be able to multiple-mic and record the whole kit at once.

Given that, probably any of your short list would do the job you need. I have a slight personal prejudice against Presonus gear (though no experience of the model you quote) but others have had okay results from their stuff.

However, may I suggest you add the Tascam US 16x08 to you short list? It's a very popular interface around these forums which will give you the advantage of lots of people to answer any questions you come up with.

The only other thing I should say is that, just like learning to play drums, learning to record drums is going to involve a learning curve. Choice an positioning of your mics can make a big difference as can the techniques and effects you use to mix it all together. If you approach it as an adventure rather than a chore, you'll do fine!

You haven't mentioned other gear you have, but it'll include mics, stands, cables, tracking headphones, monitors (for mixing), acoustic treatment ...
