need help choosing RME/lightpipe stuff

I'm working on putting together an RME system (Hammerfall DSP 9632 or 9652) but I am fairly unfamiliar with ADAT stuff. I previously used an aardvark Q10 in XP but have moved to Linux for various reasons.

My budget is pretty tight so I am pretty much just looking for a digital mixer or preamp with ADAT out in the $200 range. I would prefer to avoid berhinger stuff but suggestions on devices to look for used would be nice.

A digital mixer OR preamp?

How many inputs do you need at one time?

You can get a Tascam tm-d1000 for a couple of hundred bucks. It comes stock with 8 digital ins/outs and can be expanded to 16 cheaply. It has t/dif connectors that will interface with the RME card.

thanks! thats pretty much what I was looking for... though I am now thinking of getting the 9632 card and just slowly expanding it's analog I/O ability...as it's 192khz... and the expansion cards are only $250 each... I could probably add one every two months....

as far as channels, I can get by with 2, 4 would be better, would preferr 16 (for live performances)
