the snare head I have now blows I hate it..its a remo power dot it sounds like its in a box when you record it..I am buying a new head tomorrow and I was wanting to get some opinions I am looking for a nice crisp snare head that sounds great in recordings can anyone help me?

Lol. How about some info? Your "what head do I buy?" question is too vague.

What kind of snare? What's it made of? What size? What kind of sound do you want? How are you miking it? What mic are you using? What about the reso head? Do you know how to tune it?

Playing drums for 6 years doesn't guarantee you can tune a snare. I'm not saying you can't, but saying you've been playing for 6 years as proof is pretty funny.

And....You sure a Pearl Export snare is made of maple???

You didn't answer all of the questions. I didn't ask them because I like to type.

I might be wrong on the shell..but I am like 98% sure that it is maple

I don't know. Whatever.

Greg asked you a few relevant questions that you haven't answered. Do you want help or not????

they are made of Poplar...I use an sm57 on my snare and for the micing I have tried many different ways...I have tried anywhere from 1 to 3 inches off the drum and pointed at the attack point of the drum I have move the mic closer to the attack point nothing really changes

Big....Huge difference between Poplar and Maple. I had a feeling they weren't Maple, Export's are Pearl's bottom-of-the-line kits.

But, you knew that, right? I mean after all, you've been playing drums for 6 years.:D

it is on the second page of new post and the member is brx rad I think it is calling new recording with added kick mic

Ask him what he's using.

An Evans ST or G2 is pretty bright and ringy if that's what you want. I don't know about with poplar shells though.

Don't forget about the reso head. You said you still have the stock head on there. That can't be helping you at all. Cheap snare with a cheap head = cheap sound. Replace both heads. Throw an Ambassador Hazy on the bottom.

I'm using an Evans EC2 Reverse Dot batter on my 14x7 Maple, and it's nice and cracky but warm with just a hint of ring. It's real maple though. ;) :p
