Need Help Again

okay this is my problem it's with my compressor I have a joemeek vc6q the knobs I have for it is Compressor, Slope, Attack, Release. Here is my problem no matter how much I play with the knobs it doesn't change anything sound wise. The phantom power and eq works fine my thing is should I buy another compressor or can someone help me out and tell me what I need to do
 
thanks it did help I am at work now but when I get home I will try and play with the compressor again
 
Make sure it's not patched in backwards or something also... Some compressors act pretty funny (or don't act at all) if they're patched in wrong.
 
I have the mic going into it and then I have a line out which would be a 1/4 inch plug going out to a 1/4 inch in on my tascam 428
 
I did it once when I had no clue what I was doing. It actually sounded kind of interesting for a really distorted screamed hardcore/metal vocal. Obviously its not something you want to do every day.
