That is a lot of hits for 20 hours. Better than Myspace.

Dood, likely 80% of them were hits from spambots looking to spam yer shiz. It happens...

Now, being one of the guys here that actually works with some hip hop guys-but mostly a rock guy, I can say this is not bad. You must realize how many no talent rappers spittin rhymes come around here looking to just get 'hit's' on their site. It tends to create a bitter taste for those that respond in this forum.

You do not sound like one of those to me. Not a fan of the gangsta 'automatic' shit, but at least I didn't hear 'nigga' in your rap. That would make me not even respond. Maybe others just expect it and are offended by it....

Hip hop/rap is not typically known for recording actual instruments and music at home, not at the home studio level. This is what the site is about. 'Home' recording. That being said, recording a vocal track at home to a backing track is still home recording, but not typical in the context of members here. No offense, but 20+tracks of instrument recording is not the same as a stereo purchased backing track and laying down a vocal. 60+ in my typical situation of recording an entire rock band. Yes, that is also considered 'home recording' but not in the same sense. You can see how much people in the hip hop/rap genre typically give a shit about this forum by looking at the forum we have for it. Nothing but self promotion and no give a fuck for anything otherwise.

You may not be one of these types and I hope you are not. Like I said, I work with a group of guys that actually care about making music and furthering this genre without being stereotypical muses to their friends...

So now I will give an opinion of your mix:

The vocal is not sitting well with the backing track. The 'mastered' back track is polished. Your track is not. It actually does not sound bad, but it needs some work to put it in its place. That don't mean just throw on a plugin. You need to learn how to use compression and eq to work with a backing track with your voice added. You are close mane. Don't give up.

Depending upon your response to this, I might just might throw some love and take some time to work with your track personally and see if we can find some direction.

Sorry if this sounded arrogant. It was not meant as such. I just see this type of situation so often, that it is hard to judge between the good and the bad. You ponce seem to be on the good side. :)

Don't want to sound rude but this sounds a lot like an automatic message and not like some one actually took the time to do and give any REAL advice

Are you for fucking real?

Get your head out of your ass dood. That was real and I meant every word. If you do not appreciate it, then go elsewhere where strokes are given freely.

Your comment did sound rude, especially when you seemed to expect comments so quickly. I took the time to give 'real' advice and gave you the reason and replied honestly. What the hell were you expecting?

Sigh...

Good luck to you dood. I really thought you had potential.

You should remove your last post and start over if you really want help or educated opinion. That was just pathetic....

I am a mod here so I can make it go away. But you need to get off your horse and quit the arrogance if you wish to learn. I hope you have just been drinking and not stupid.

sorry about that, I've rarely ran into someone that actually takes time to write a response like you did, proper spelling and stuff like that is rarely seen in forums but i really do appreciate the advice, and sorry for sounding unappreciative
thanx for taking the time to write your response and id really like for you to help me out in my mixs if i haven't pissed you off already

I do not hold grudges. Not enough time in life to keep anger.

What is the next step then?

I was not joking about taking the time to help you mix your tracks. But, you have to understand that that was an offer to someone who wishes to learn. Not an arrogant member who attacks the guy who offered in his first post to you. Seriously dood, the whole world is not against you. You lashed out at me as if I were some bot who had bullshitted you. I assure you that was not the case.

Take a step back and think about this for a bit. :)

Your right and i really shouldn't of reacted that way, and I'm not to sure what this track needs, to me it sound on point but i know it could be way better, any advice?

Ok, let's start over...

Yeah, it sounds quite good as it is, but there are some issues with pronunciation of your vocal. Concentrate on clearly delivering your words more. You know what you are spittin but I have a hard time understanding. You want people to hear what you have to say man. Ironic that you say 'breath' when it seems to me you are not taking breaths yourself in the performance.

OK, now is the point where you may get angry for my opinion, but it is honest and something I hear-or don't. I am just being honest. Take it for what it is worth, or don't. Again, this is just my opinion. I am not anything special. Just honest.

Now, there is an issue with the vocal not blending with the backing track. First off, most of the backing tracks you download are pumped up as loud as they can be. Pull that level down. Also, take out some of the frequencies that are interfering with your vocal. That 'trash can snare' is stomping all over your vocal. Use a parametric eq to notch out that frequency to make room for your voice. That will give you a bunch more space to fit your voice. There is much more to be said about how to control your voice with technique, but you are the one to decide what works for you.

And just so you know, I will never bullshit anyone. I may not have all the answers and my opinions may not be the right ones for everyone, but I will be completely honest with my opinion from the experiences I have had. Whatever that means and whatever that is, I am not just some guy throwing out bullshit advice. I learn everyday new ways to do or approach new situations. That will never end for me.

There are basics that apply to everything though. Quality performance is number one. Get that right and the rest will follow.

You 'ponce' have a good voice. Find the way to make it better than others in your own personal way, and you will have something to sell. IMO, just telling a story in rhymes is not enough to get you paid. You have to have something unique about how you do it, or with how you tell a story. You have to connect with something or someone. I do not know what that is, hell I am a bass player/drummer so I have no clue. :)

You probably nixed your chances of anyone else here being interested. Not everyone's as nice as Jimmy...

ill try that and its not me rapping its one of my friends i just mix for him, it was something different for him since he's not used to spitting to that type of beat, and i did notice he was having a hard time with saying certain words

i really do value your opinion, since i began engineering i had no help besides youtube videos and articles i found online, other than that I've been on my own, no one ever called me out on mistakes i made mainly because they didn't understand what i was doing in the 1st place.

yea i realized i might have, i came off as a complete ass but jimmy still offering to help, and sorry to anyone that reads this.

Well there is the place where you promote honesty in getting the most out of any performer. Be the guy that says something when something does not sound right. Don't ever be someones 'MOM' when it comes to performance or recording. Be nice about it in the approach, but be direct and honest in what you hear. No musician or artist gets anything positive from being stroked. A decent spank is needed sometimes. :)

Well, now there is another place that has people that do give a shit.

Let's get back to the issues at hand and get over the drama. OK?

We've come along way from when we first started working together
His delivery and flow have gotten better from when i first heard him spit.

And i went ahead and added the eq, and brought the snare frq down about 7.7db

it doesn't sound as full

That's for sure. I'm down with some good rap, but I couldn't even be bothered to listen to this one now.

Great advice from Jimmy.

The idea is to bring out the vocal and get it to sit nicely. Try the vocal alone and think about it's strengths and weaknesses and perhaps play with EQ on it just to see what it likes... and then bring up the backing. As you bring up the backing listen out for what is helping and hurting the vocal. There are no magical numbers for EQ (although we all develop our favourite habits).

Sorry you feel that way but i would really like your opinion on the track
