I finally got some vocals together for one of my songs. The vocallist, I believe lurked under the same username here as he does at the other place (W.I.S.C.). Anyhow Im just fishing for some comments about the vocal mix in general.
I did the swell vocal effect at the start of each chorus and im not so sure that I like it. Really looking for thoughts on that. The rest of the stuff I am happy with. I think he did a great job on this.

thanks in advance

The vocals fit very well. They don't seem too loud, and I don't think you would want them any louder, as they might overpower the mix. Great voice, by the way.

I really like this. Great guitar work. So far the only thing I notice is when the double kick comes in it is WAY powerful. It sounds like his single hits aren't quite as strong or that when the double kicks come up he gets excited and really pumps. I really like the song. I'm a big fan of twin guitars. To me the mix sounds fairly balanced. The voice is better than average. Great range. If I heard this on the radio I'd be interested to hear more. Good dynamics.

Dogman thanks for the listen and the comments.

It has been my experience with non-triggered drum sounds that double kicks are going to be louder/eat up more space in the mix when the mix is already fairly dense to begin with. I know what your saying though, it does pump up quite a bit.

If I heard this on the radio I'd be interested to hear more.

Glad you feel that way. Thanks for taking the time to listen/compliment.

Yeah vocals sit niceley. Any tips on your EQ settings if you please? did you use a vocal distorter as they bring out vocals really well.
Did you record the drums or are they samples? The snare and cymbals sound nice, kik is a tad hidden, could be the lo end. Try taking a thin Q out at 200Hz. and maybe boost the kik a tiny tad. PM me if you could let me into some vocal EQ setings, that would be great man.

Screw that! I'd be interested too!

I'm having a whole lot of trouble hearing the banjo, but otherwise, it seems very well put together, Wireneck. W.I.S.C. sang his ass off on this. Did he send you tracks to double with, or is that you fattening it up? He did a nice job on the harmonies too.

I don't want to upset you guys lol but there is absolutely no Eq except a Hi-Pass set around 200 Hz. I don't know the exact Mic he used but i do know that it was a dynamic. Otherwise I just did some comp/limiting and verb to help them sit within the mix a little better.

Did you record the drums or are they samples?

The drums are real. They are Yamaha Maple custom's, really nice sounding kit. Unfortunately my skills don't do the the sound of those drums a bit of justice.

Ecktronic thanks for listening.

ChrisHarris I guess you didn't catch this one over at the other place, since yourl busy recording your "BAND" LMAO. The main vocal is doubled all the way through. I did some enveloping here and there where the timing was a little inconsistent between the two but otherwise he was pretty much dead on. That guy is a trooper, I was going to correct a few things (like we talked about in Pm) just to save him the grief of retracking and he got right back in front of the mic and cranked out some even better tracks. Thanks for listening man, one of these days I'll either laugh at your banjo comment or I'll really put a banjo in there to catch you off guard.

Very nice sounding mix to me, not just the vocals. I did have a little trouble making out what he was saying, but I don't think that's your fault. ;)

The words are a bit muffled, but the overall sound is great. My first guess would be to notch a bit of 2k or 3k out of the bass to bring out the vocal pronounciation a bit. Maybe notch the sibilant frequencies out of the guitar for the same reason.

Really very good. I'm impressed. I very much like the sudden acoustic breakdown. Reminds me of Opeth.

If this is intended to be a demo of the vocalist in particular, I'd bring up the whole vocal group 1 or 2 db.

Tallman thanks for taking a listen. I asked for comments on the vocal mix solely because the vocals were an internet collab that was done on top of an instrumental submix I had already completed. I don't do too much of my work "in the box" due to lack of a descent interface. So I basically had to tweak the vocals on top of a mix that I no longer have much control over, if that made any sense at all. Thanks again

Listen to it for a couple days before I posted. I don't like it.

It had more feeling without the cheezy lyrics/singer.

I also think he's to loud. Like he's just there type thing. Parts of the song he gets all singy then stops. I can't explain it words. I don't mean to sound like an asshole Wire. But it was much better the way it was.

Like I said before though I never like these type singers. I tried to keep an open mind. I listen for structure and feel. I didn't feel it was there yet.

How long did he have the song before he sang to it? Maybe it's just he needs more time to feel it? Well happy recording Wire.

godmoney thanks for the listen.

Livilanic I don't think your a dick, its your opinion. I am into ALL styles of metal and pretty much all styles of singers. As I stated before this was an internet collaboration and nothing permanent has been decided in regards to the Album as a whole. I still stand by my original statement, I think he is a good singer and he did a good job. To each his own, i guess......

Yeah, I think maybe the chorus vocals could be thinned a little - just because the music is so cool.

One thing I feel, is that it shouldn't fade out at the end. Just finish those bars at normal level.

I really don't know what to say about this. Some of the vocal melodies at the beginning are hard to "get" because of the uniqueness of it and the music together.

Good song, though. Thanks for not going for the obligatory guitar solo, but this is a different kind of song, anyway.
