Need Advice or Help!

undefinedundefinedQuestion....if you are a all original band and you fire one of the members,but that one member wrote the music(not lyrics) to only one of the songs... can you continue to use that song without having to deal with any legal bullcrap?

I would ask his permission. Unless it's not copywritten, then you can just copyright it yourself... but that's not really nice.

Technically if you co-wrote it though... I think it should be fine.
 
If you co-wrote it you have every right to play it, sign it to a publishing contract, record it...whatever. So does he. You don't need each other's permission to do that stuff. Otherwise, every time I played a song out at a writers' round I'd have to call my co-writers and ask permission ;).

Now... that being said, it's always preferable to keep your co-writers informed on what's going on with songs that you wrote together. For example, if a co-writer pitches a song that we wrote together, it's best he informs me so I don't pitch to the same publisher & vice versa.
