Hi guys,

Im new to all this and i just wanted to ask for your opinions and pro advice on equipment and recording techniques.
Heres what i got at my disposal.
-Powerful computer lacking a recording sound card --what card should i get?
-MacBook with Logic Pro
-Yamaha MG10 mixer
-i got guitars, bass guitars, drums and a keyboard. I got respective mics for my drums and a condenser mic for guitars. i have some sm58s for vocals

im keen on acquiring an audio interface instead of a sound card. i cant decide. coz i guess with a audio interface i can use it with my Macbook right?
anyways i dont have a big budget to work with atm. if i had to put a number down id say UP to AUD$300.

i dont necessarily need to record ALL of them at the same time, but at least 2 of em them i.e. vocals and guitar?

sorry if im not clear enough, ill be more than happy to clarify anything to help you help me.

yeah i will be recording drums. thanks for the list. its helping me narrow down what i need.
but why a 4 channel interface? cant i just hook up my drums to my mixer and then send from the mixer to an audio interface? if its bad then let me know lol.

thanks in advance

Well, you could, but you would only record 2 channels off most mixers. You would want more control over each individual mic, so you need to record them to their own track. Therefore, you need one channel on an interface for each mic. There is one method for recording drums that uses 4 mics. It's called the Recorder Man method, or something similar. You can do a search on this site for it, or google it.

In my opinion, a mixer is a waste of money for most home recordists. You can just plug straight into the interface.
