Ok so recently I've been getting into recording and everything that comes along with it. Here's everything I have so far. I'm recording into a BehringerUB802 mixer>to my Fostex MR8 digital recorder> from there I transfer my wav file mono (is this right?) to my laptop. It has an internal soundcard (Soundmax, is this any good?) I'm using Adobe Audition 1.5 for editing, mixing, effects, mastering, and what not. I also have a pair of AKG 44's headphones (are these good enough?) I'm about to order a Shure SM57 mic for recording my guitar. Should I recording my distorted guitar thru the mics or get some kind of amp modeler for my pc? Now what I need is a good pair of monitors. I've looked everywhere read reviews and gotten a little advice but nothings really helped yet. I'm looking to spend around 300 bucks top for a good pair but I'd rather pay less. I have a set of Bose stereo speakers can I use those? Please any help will be appreciated. I'm sure someone here will have an answer b/c I've learned so much from this place already. Thanks for the help, don

Hi, don.

I picked up a used set of Event PS6 monitors off ebay for less than $300. They're very good.

Good Luck!

Choosing monitors is kind of tricky. If you can in your area, go to a Guitar Center or other big box gear retailer and see if you can audition different sets of monitors. Be sure and bring along a CD you're familiar with to listen to. It's likely the one's you like may be out of your price range, but at least you'll know what you like and you may be able to pick them up used. Other than that, it's just reading reviews, etc. then crossing your fingers and pulling the trigger. In any event, it'll be a big step up from monitoring through your headphones; and the Bose speakers are probably not suitable for use as monitors. Bear in mind that if you get passive monitors, you'll need a power amp to go along with them.

As far as recording your guitar, I'd go for mic'ing the cab as opposed to using an amp modeler.

Unfortunately I have nowhere within 2 hours to try them. I'm from the Mississippi Delta  so we have nothing. Can someone just point to a good quality brand to look for. I have to get active b/c I don't want to put the extra money down on another amp. As you can see from my gear, I'm not a proffesional or anything but I do want to make the best sound out of what I have and get. Surely I can get a good pair for around 250-300. Thanks for the help I need all I can get. any other opinions?
