I took on a recording Challenge for the first weekend in November. (why is another story!)
I am recording a 14 piece Traditional Mexican Horn Band in my small 12 x 24 studio.
Tuba,Trombones,Trumpets,Clarinets and Big Bass Drum.
I will probably record in smaller sections if possible.

I have not recorded horns in over 5 years, so my set up has changed a lot. I originally recorded a Funk / Soul band (in sections) using primarily SM57s and a few C1000s which worked OK but not stellar.
So after a long intro, what are you guys opinion? Dynamic mics or Condensors?
My mic locker is as follows:
Studio Projects T-3 and B-3
AT-4033
(2) CAD E-100s
(2)Oktava MK-012s
(2) C1000s
(5) SM57s
(2) Unidyne IIIs
Beta 52
Some other misc dynamics.

Have yet to meet a horn that couldn't be well-mic'ed with an SM-57....

Thanks TimOBrien,

Thats what I had sort of settled for as my first try. I have successfully recorded solo Sax and such with condensors, but you have to be really careful they dont come off strident. I figured the directionality and sound of the sm57s would probably work best unless I wanted a brighter harsher in your face sound. (which I don't).
Thanks for your response!

Thanks Sweets,
I agree with your choices.
I was not very clear in my post, but I was wondering which of my mics in my current selection would be best. They are not the the greatest choice I agree.
