I was negligent enough to park my un-insured vehicle with all the doors open and the keys inside. It got stolen so NOW, I have the right to steal another one from the dealership (hey, I had already paid for one right?) and I'm bright enough to admit to be driving a stolen car because I had already bought one once. REAL SMART!!!!

BTW - did you know that Cakewalk monitors the registration numbers of installed copies of all current products when they connect to the internet?
Didn't know that. My apologies for being a newbie, but does this mean that if I do NOT connect to the internet every now and then, software may expire / stop working properly / ... even though it's paid / registered ? I purposely put al lot of important stuff on a non-networked partition to keep viruses and other rubbish out :-(

Dude, if you really did have a copy call them and explain the situation. They do have replacement media for basically production costs only.

If your friend also lost his manual, if it was real then Cakewalk will sell him a replacement.

Have a nice day.

Alright, I am not trying to take the side of illegal, pirated software, or anything of that sort. But, I am curious, I have bought REAL software off ebay, it came with the box, manual, c.d.'s and all. But, if I were to use it, I would use the same copy I had bought, which means same serial of course, so wouldn't that mean that he and I have registered, which means I would be fucked?

Like it or not, generally you do not OWN any software that you purchase. What you own is a license to use the software. That license may, or may not be transferable. You have to read the fine print.

In the case of Cakewalk, I am pretty sure all their licenses are non-tranferable. Which means that the person selling Cakewalk software has no legal basis to sell it (I am assuming opened, previously used software here - not new, shrink-wrapped stuff).

From a practical standpoint, if he never registered the software, it is likely that will not have any problems. This doesn't make it any more legal, it just means you probably won't get caught. However, if it was previously registered, you will not be able to register it again.

I am going to read whether it is transferrable, and if it is not I am asking for a refund from the guy, thank you very much.

I've never heard of a Cakewalk product which is transferable.

Good luck getting your money back!

Take Care

Puh-leeeez...

What...? Do you live in the Bermuda triangle?? Yours got stolen and he "lost" his manual????

You really need to work on your lying skills.

I suggest you watch John Kerry a little closer for tips! ;)
