Hi there, long time reader- 1st time poster.

I just got a practice space at the historical lemp brewery in St. Louis. My room has this fantastic 6x3 (estimate) old style window that the land lord blocked off with a slab of 1/2in. thick grey board. I don't think its sheet rock, as its pretty brittle like a particle board..I don't know my materials very well

He says its a matter of municipal codes that requires him to try and soundproof the windows, but the view from this 3rd story window is too awesome to block off.

I Imagine this existing ghetto rigged sound solution only blocks out 25-30% sound, Is there any half way decent clear materials that can do the job? Acrylic maybe?

Thanks in advance!

hmmm, "half way" decent"? Define decent. But yea, there is. How deep are your pockets?

Furthermore, by virtue of the "weakest link" syndrome, can you afford to waste the money, once you discover it was in vain due to all the flanking paths and less than you thought Transmission Loss of the existing building assemblies around it. :)

But just to enlighten you a bit...it takes a sheet of 1/2" thick plate glass and another 3/4" thick piece to equal the TL of a Two leaf wall assembly consisting of 2 layers of 5/8" drywall on each side of a 2x4 wood framed wall. That should give you a clue. Now call a Glazing company and price them for the size required. Then price what it will take to fix all the flanking paths. You may discover the ghetto solution may work for your needs. :D
