I'm about to open my own studio and am looking at what interface i will use.

At the moment it will most likely be used with-
a A&H GS3000 mixer
a apple mac 2Ghz inter Core duo with 2GB ram a 500GB Hard drive and ati Radeon X1600 sound card.

Cubase SX3

I was looking at the MOTU 24I/O but anyother suggestions around the same price would be great also the mac has PCI express will this affect things?

I'm gonna sound like a Presonus salesman if I keep plugging the Firepod/ Box...but it's the only one I've ever used and I'm happy with it. It suits my needs. It's firewire. Isn't that good for Macs?

Anyway...look into the Presonus Firebox...or the Presonus Firepod...depending on how many pres you need.

Actual scrap the mac i will probably using a PC.

i dont need and preamps at the the GS3000 will provide all that.

So something more along the lines of an M-Audio Delta 44.....or 1010. Something with lots of ins. Does your mixer have firewire out, or is it normal analog?

I would just get a multichannel interface (Fireface, Delta 1010, motu)

That mixer is real nice and has direct outs so its pretty easy to interface

RME for upper mid range, Apogee for a step up.
try them apples

No complaints with the Delta series from me. I run a 1010 and a 44.

Do i have to use the motu PCI card with the Motu interface or can i get say a Lynx card to use with the Motu?

so can i get a different card to the interface will that make a difference?

Yes, you can run different cards from different manufacturers. The down side is that running them concurrently will probably require that they be synced to each other with wordclock, or S/PDIF, or synced to a dedicated clock like a Big Ben. Multiple cards from the same manufacturer on the other hand can usually sync through their driver. But external sync is easy, no biggie.
I have a Delta interface and a Lynx L-22. I like this approach because my main D/A is the Lynx (very, very good), my "gold channel" A/D is the Lynx, and then the Delta handles the several tracks at once chores quite adequately.

My advice would be that if you do get a Mac, don't go with Cubase SX. It costs as much as Digital Performer, which IMHO, is a better piece of software.

BTW, no Intel-based Macs have an exposed PCI Express bus currently (though they do use PCIe for the graphics chip on the logic board). The laptops have ExpressCard, though, if that's what you meant.
