gimmi your mic!
hey guys --

over the past 2 years or so, I was using LOGIC 5.5 on a PC. Yes, PC, coz I got a brand spanking new PC and Logic two fricking weeks before Emagic announced that they won't support PCs in the future. How pathetic is that? Now, I feel like I'm outgrowing Logic 5 and would like to get a similar/better solution for PC with a future -- for a change.

So what would you recommend? Here's my minimum requirement:

o 36 audio tracks
o 16 VST stracks
o full automation for all main (volume, panning, eq) and VST parameters
o some sort of a "Project Manager" (keeping tracks of the individual files is a pain in Logic 5)
o MIDI controller option (like the Mackie Controller which I might get)

So here's the choice:

o ProTools LE: ok, I needed a new interface (like a Digi02), which can be managed. Plus: "industry standard", compatible when I go to pro facilities. Minus: track limitation! ProTools LE is not a full-blown ProTools setup. Unfortunately I have never seen ProTools, except the "Free ProTools" version, which doesn't cut it, but I guess ProTools LE is a step up.

o Nuendo: Plus: probably the perfect solution. Minus: whaaaat?? $1,500 for a software?? You gotta be kidding!

o Cubase SX3: I have never seen it, but from the specs, it looks darn good! I especially luv the fact that you can see the filter/eq selection on every track.

o Cubase SL: looks nice, its cheap, but has severe limitations. Looks like its similar to Logic 5, but doesn't offer anything I wouldn't have already (except the option to upgrade in the future).

Did I miss a choice?? (other than getting a G5 ($2,500) and upgrading to Logic 6 (another $400). Also, what's a good way to see these sequencers in action? I haven't seen any demo download. Are there any cross-grade offers on the market?

Help, anyone?? Thanxxxx!

P.S.: plz don't start a "my sequencer is better" - war, and NO PC vs MAC debate here.

with respect giganova , and if your willing to keep an open mind.
i believe the following are great - all under 100 bucks....
ntrack, powertracks and magix music studio (both i use and am happy with ),traktion, and the one i think is the most overlooked, and underrated
multitrackstudio.com. some believe you have to spend an inheritence on this stuff . i dont. just try the demoes if you want to be enlightened.
fasoft.com,pgmusic.com,magix,de,and multitrackstudio.com.
thank me later....
oh i think traktion is rawmaterialsoftware.com also very good.

I'll check these programs out. I've actually heard a lot of good stuff about ntrack, but simply couldn't imagine its any good -- given what it costs. I'll give it a shot.

I'm using Cubase SX 2, and will be upgrading to SX 3. I've found getting around in SX to be painless, and it works well for my needs. I do MIDI work: VST tracks, sequencing and such, and SX helps me keep a good workflow going. Definitely will cost you more than n-tracks, etc. (a lot more), but I tried n-tracks and wasn't impressed with the interface.

giganova - dont let low price fool you. i know many people who started with more expensive fare and moved to the programs i listed even though they are much less expensive. just ask for example on the powertracks forum at pgmusic.com what some users think. i think you will see i'm not lying to you.
the folks on that forum are highly experienced. and been there done that many many times and use powertracks and prefer it over many other solutions.
