Ok Guys, after a long absence and some heavy personal problems .
I 'm back to bother you guys. ( Especially Mr. Ghost)
I never actually tried out my 488 months ago because of things beyond my control.
My main goal is to record country blues. Slide resonator guitar. Regular acoustic. A little harp and some other things like stomp box and tambourine.
Think of it pretty much as an acoustic session.
Months ago I bought a marshal condensor mike. Not too expensive.
About $100
I also have a shure SM57.
So today I realized I just have a 488, not a 488MKII.
So I believe I do NOT have phantom power . ( which is why my condensor mic is silent (LOL).
Anyway could use your suggestions. It seams like when I plug my sm57 directly into the deck, I get a lot of noise and not a lot of volume out of the guitar. Could be crappy cords I guess, but the guitar comes through very quiet. I use an adaptor because the inputs on the deck are all 1/4"
And of course the marshall condeseor mic is silent. My fault. Thought I had phantom power. So , can I power that mic?
Or am I thinking of this wrong.
If you guys had the same deck...these same two mic's ...how would you approach without buying a lot of additional gear.
I believe in a past post , someone said there is outboard phantom power supplies.
Sounds like that would work for me, but will I get some volume?
I have to practically shove the SM57 right on the strings and then turn the input all the wa y up just to get a marginal signal.
Anyway, hope all is well with everyone.
Would appreciate any thoughts you guys have.
Mike
