I have been using GoldWave to record songs onto my computer from my 4-track. I've recently realized that I need more tracks, but I am setup very comfortably with my 4-track and I don't want to spend money on any equipment. I have microphones, effects, instruments, a good soundcard, all and any necessary tools with which to make music. I just need a simple and reliable program that can record anywhere between 8 and 24 tracks, with simultaneous recording and playback. Extensive effects and editing functions are not important.

Any suggestions will be helpful. Thank you.

for basic multitracking at low cost, i think it's hard to beat N-TRACK.

Sorry, about that...

"It only provides 8 tracks".

and there's a reason it's free..............

i wouldn't be afraid to invest a little cash in a decent multitrack program...there are a lot of them out there, with various options for hardware support. there is a demo available for most software...so you can try different programs out....many soundcards come with some basic recording software...it is quite possible to get some software that you can actually use this way.......a plus with this is that the software might actually work, if it comes with your soundcard.

thanks guys.... i appreciate all the suggestions. i just started recording with a friend who has an awesome ProTools setup, and he's very proficient. I'm seriously thinking about investing in this program, so my problem is solved, for now...

But the Pro Tools setup will hit you for MUCHO DINERO. :(
