Yeah, yeah. I'm going to college and I've got enough money for a cheap mixer. I have standards (or requirements, I guess) for what I want. Let's see what the best one we can come up with is, shall we?

Okay, I want at least six tracks and phantom power. $300-400 bucks. And if it's the dreaded 'B,' then I don't care. I probably won't notice the difference, anyway.

Oh yeah, forgot to put that I want it to have direct outs. Yeah.

Suggestions.

And to add more, I'm going to be using this pretty much for preamps and into a delta 1010. Yeah.

If you just needs preamps, then just buy outboard pres as you need them!

4 Audio Buddy's ($79 each) will give you 7 channels for $316.........

do you need all those channels now?....id buy some here and there so along the way i could get a few different flavors....maybe a Audio Buddy and an Art and a Joe Meek.......etc etc.......

Well, it's because I'm going to college, so I'm getting all the money I get for the next two years in the next few months. I want something that'll work for the next couple of years for me.

Honestly, it sounds like your priorities are a bit skewed...
unless you are going to audio school, and they are asking you to come with a small home recording setup, to use for homework...

Going 'away' to school, and spending a bulk of the money you will need "for the next two years" on THIS TYPE of audio gear doesn't seem like a smart plan.

But....do you plan on recording alone??....if so, do you need all the 1010 inputs, etc.. If not, maybe your musical partners will have the equipment you're lacking. You might want to wait and see...
Hey...you might even prefer to study!! that'd be novel!!;)

I'm pretty pleased with the Soundcraft F1 16, and I got it for barely $400. It feels pretty cheap and plastic, and weighs practically nothing. But it has eight pres, it sounds good, and the faders feel ok.

Oh, by the way it does _not_ have direct outs. But is there some particular reason you can't use the inserts as everyone else does? :)
