Necessity of Wood for Traps

Hey all, quick question:

What is the reason for building a wooden frame for bass traps and absorpers? Is there a huge disadvantage to just wrapping a sheet of rigid fiberglass in fabric and sticking that up on the wall? The panels in the picture in the "Built my own wall panels" thread appear to be done this way. Thanks!

The wood frames can be used to "tune" the frequency of the trap.

Or you can build a carcase and put slot resonators tuned to problem frequencies.
