Hi there,

I know it's probably been asked 1000 times before here, but i am looking for a recommendations for a second microphone, i own a sm57 but feel i need something better for recording acoustic guitar and vocals etc.

I am looking at condenser mics under £150 that are natural and detailed, nothing harsh;

Studio projects B1/B3 (is there any difference other than polar patterns switch?)
AT 2035
AT 2020

Would anyone recomend any of the above, or have other recomendations?

Thanks.

Where are you from? For I can say a few microphones but they may be expensive for you.

The squiggly L probably means european. But that's not a lot of cash, even for there. That's what a tank of gas, or a pound of strawberries on that side of the pond?

At that price you're probably looking for something in a Sennheiser (used). Neumann and Schoeps are probably out at that price point. Or something from China. Is the Blue Spark about that price over yonder?

Thanks for the replies,

the blue spark is about £160 over here, looks interesting how does it compare to the mics i mentioned? mainly AT2020 (heard lots of clips of this,(sounds crispy))

also the MXL v67g is super cheap over here, will look into it.

I'd just buy the B.L.U.E. Spark and move on. The V67G is one of the cheapest capacitor mics that doesn't suck, but if you are looking for "natural", I think the Spark is the better all-around mic.-Richie

I bought a v67, have tried it out on a guitar piece, very good sound!

It is however lacking some high end shimmer to my ears (dont get me wrong, I think this sounds brilliant for the price) , but i cant help but think i would have got a 'clearer' transparent sound with something in the AT or SP range?

MXL v67g can be improved

Now that you have the v67g, you are have recognized that
it has "potential".

Do you do soldering, repairs, electronics work, etc.?

There are lots of folks who have explained how to make that
exact model even better, and the results solve precisely the
type of shortcomings that you describe.
