This is actually (one of) my Royer modded V67G's. I noticed the locking nut was made of brass, which isn't the case with all V67s. The body is also brass, so I stripped the paint off and brushed the surface with some sand paper, then steel wool, then polishing compound. Then I laquered it after I cleaned it really well.

Thought it was cool enough to share.

It took a couple hours. Mostly waiting for the stripper to work.

Wow that's pretty impressive looking. I always hated the green but the brass and gold looks killer.

I don't know if it works for paint, but if you want to remove lacquer from brass, put it in boiling hot water.

I think you did a great job. It looks far better
than the original. If it were mine....? I'd go to
the hobby store and get a bottle of Tester's
model paint in the same color as the original
paint that was removed, and I'd paint and
wipe the engraving on it so that just the
lettering was green on the brass. I believe
clear lacquer goes over enamal with no problem.

Nice, nice job. Good photography too. Thanks
for the send.

I thought about that after I took the photo. I think what I might do is take an exacto or pin and scrape the paint out if the engraving. I think I'd rather keep the whole thing goldish.

I have a V69 and am seriously thinking it would look better this way as well.

This is mandatory for rappers.

Does this mean we have a definitive answer for best rap mic under $300??

"Yeah, ...Phil's!"

:p

Send it to MXL as a suggestion. It really makes a lot of sense. Why hide real brass with paint?

Phil,

That mic looks awesome! I just picked up a V67 myself. When you say "Royer modded", what exactly is involved in the modification?
