Ok, I have a pc running windows 98 se, 433mhz celeron with 128 meg. I was using n-track to mix the song we recorded which has 6 tracks, with effects on the vocals on drums. Everything was going fine til i had to save it.. and I kept getting illegal operations. I've used cool edit a bit and its good as well.. but the rage seems to be n-track.. would cool edit work faster without all the errors on my pc? Take into account i am formatting my hard drive tuesday.. to either reinstall windows 98 or go to XP... depending on whether or not my crummy pc specs can handle XP. any suggestions?

Post this question at the Cool Edit Pro and N-tracks forums for a varied response. ( there are plenty of helpful technical folks over there that are very gracious with info of this type. Personally I love CEP and MR-8 but have no exp w/N-tracks

Good luck,
Ralph

First, I would upgrade the CPU and RAM,
The Celeron and a low amount of Memory will just make it slower, The KEY to your probs is Win 98. Win XP is a better choice and will perform a lot better (after you upgrade the 2 components listed above)
I tried the N-Track program, but found it not as good as CEP.
It was like comparing Win 95 to Win XP. It is a great program for the price, I know CEP is like $250!
But most of your issues will be solved , no matter which editor you use, with Win XP. Win 98 just will not cut it.
The CPU is just a hair too slow for Win XP. also try looking into getting a P3 for that Motherboard and at least 256 megs or RAM. I know this will help!
If there is anything I can do contact me via my website below!
Thanks,
Mark
