Myspace can steal your art
Hey myspacers...have you ever actually read the terms and conditions for myspace?
When you log in click on the terms link at the bottom. The 6th term of use is this:

Proprietary Rights in Content on MySpace.com.

By displaying or publishing ("posting") any Content, messages, text, files, images, photos, video, sounds, profiles, works of authorship, or any other materials (collectively, "Content") on or through the Services, you hereby grant to MySpace.com, a non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense through unlimited levels of sublicensees) to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, publicly perform, publicly display, store, reproduce, transmit, and distribute such Content on and through the Services. This license will terminate at the time you remove such Content from the Services. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a back-up or residual copy of the Content posted by you may remain on the MySpace.com servers after you have removed the Content from the Services, and MySpace.com retains the rights to those copies. You represent and warrant that: (i) you own the Content posted by you on or through the Services or otherwise have the right to grant the license set forth in this section, and (ii) the posting of your Content on or through the Services does not violate the privacy rights, publicity rights, copyrights, contract rights or any other rights of any person. You agree to pay for all royalties, fees, and any other monies owing any person by reason of any Content posted by you to or through the Services.

basically, myspace can use your words, paintings, photos, and music without your permission whenever and however they want.
Be careful about what you post. Please.

fucking WOW.
I wonder how long it's been like this.
I'm willing to bet, it changed when Rupert Murdoch (Owner of Fox News and a whole bunch of other shit) bought Myspace.
Fucking rediculous. soulless.

Jumpin Jehosaphat!!!.. I had no idea Rupert owned myspace.. That explains some things...

Thanks eth

i will definately post something different now a days. your music falls under that category as well.

Hmm... I can frankly say that I'm not too scared....

Well, they write all that legal stuff cause one, they have to make backup copies for server downs and failures. They have to be able to modify or delete inappropriate content.

I wouldn't get to worried cause all those big artists that have posted songs would have a field day with attorneys if they did use the content wrong. And think of this, that's 72 millon people that would pull out if Myspace did use everones stuff and sold your content. That millions lost.

1. Myspace is public and others may post your songs on thier page.
2. Myspace has the right to modify or delete things that are not appropriate for the public domain. <That's text, images, sound, messages, bulletens, blogs> (only on the Myspace server)
3. And they need to copy for backup...

That's what all that stuff is about...

"you hereby grant to MySpace.com, a non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, worldwide license"
-They would have to pay each person royalties for songs posted and content owned by artists. That's what that line is for. You can post it free...

"publicly display, store, reproduce, transmit, and distribute such Content on and through the Services"
-Through the Services is a major phrase. That means only on the myspace site. That's because you post content on many profiles, and messages. Other people can post banners from you profile and such. And so can myspace. Your data is transmited all over the site evryday...

So don't worry, Myspace doesn't own your stuff, just the right to post...
Don't take off all your songs. But yes, put tags on it...

OK think of this.

If myspace charges at least $1 per click on the ads. That's 72 million clicks a day! That's more than $72 million a day they make. Some what... What are we doing wrong here working hard? That's just a thought... :D

mmmmmm. 72 million people. I can't even think how many servers they have running 24/7. Let's see: each person can post 20mb. That's about 10,000 people on a 200GB drive. OK that's a lot of drives!

I'm not that worried about it....myspace makes enough money off of advertisements and artists signed to their new label.
