every time I record a vocal track it sounds tinny. are there fx/eq that can fix this?

tell us about your set up. what type of mic and recorder are you using?

Yep, mic is very important. You could try to record closer to the mic, to benefit from the proximity effect.

Proximity definitely will help. Get right on top of it if you have to (use a pop screen).

Room acoustics can play a big part too. Try moving the mic to different parts of the room, or trying different rooms altogether.

Mic choice is huge. Typically large diaphragm condensers are used for lead vocals. The better the mic (and the preamp as well) the better your chance for the sound you are looking for. Although occasionally it's the crappiest gear that gets the best sound for a specific project, it's hard to lose by adding quality most of the time.

Assuming you've taken all the above info into consideration, EQ will definitely help a voice. Also make sure the reverb and/or delay is on the shorter side. Inappropriate use of reverb, especially on multiple tracks/backup harmonies can make the vox sound muddy.
