hey i jus need some help. basically, i have an alesis io|2 interface, a rode nt2-a condenser microphone, some monitor speakers, and cubase 4. i connected everything up, but it doesnt work. cubase doesnt pick up anything from the microphone, and nothing can be played back, for example when i import a music file into cubase, you cannot hear it. can somebody help me on how i can hear 'things, and how i can record as cubase doesnt pick up my mic signals. thanks.

does your interface supply phantom power to work the mic?

Yes. The I/O2 does supply phantom power if you switch it on.

For those who aren't aware of the issue 'phantom power' (DC voltage) must be available to drive condenser microphones. It is not necessary for (though it does no harm to) dynamic mics. Unless specifically required it should never be used with ribbon mics.

I have no issues with my I/O2.

I'm not familiar with the Alesis unit, but I use a Toneport for an interface and have to make it my soundcard. There should be something in the Cubase that will either say "options" or "preferences" then select Audio and choose the Alesis as your sound preference. Again this may not work for your stuff as I use Toneport and Acid as my DAW.

maybe but i dont know how to use any of it, ive played around with cubase but cant find it :(

I think you have some serious reading to do - manuals & guides that is.
UNless you can REALLY explain what's where & how come -including what comp, what version of CB etc - it'll be hard to help.
Phone a friend?

its cubase 4, i said it at the start. umm everything does work...like when i use audacity or something, the mic signals are picked up...its just that i can not hear them back, and cubase jus doesnt even pick up the signals

I'm assuming you've set up your inputs in Cubase correctly?

well i clicked on the device thing, and i cant find any input stuff...it just has like busses...can you tell me how to do it please?

jeez, I'm a noob too, but it's like chips doesn't want it to work!
Every interface has a first-time set-up that must be done. It's in every manual or quick start guide. Quick start guides are for noobs...I would read that before asking general questions here (no offence to this forum, but I'm sure you'll agree - READ the Quickstart guide!! Then, if you have a specific problem, ask here!

ive read the guides and stuff, and i tried setting everthing up, buh i just cant do it, thats why i came here, i know you guys are trying to help, but im not a COMPLETE noob lol i did read the guides lol

cubase tutorials.

also make sure you are using your sound card in cubase preferences or options or whatever the tool bar calls it.
