hey guys, Here are some pics of my studio. the room is 11.125 F width (the wall with the picture), 10.75 lenght (the wall with the window or orange wall) and 7.3 height.
I dont have the money to do soundproof but I was thinking whats the best desk placement based on the romm. Also bass traps?
Let me know what do you guys think?

thanks a lot in advance

Probably facing the window. Make sure to add absorption to your first reflection points and bass traps in as many corners as possible.

Also, it is better for you to stand your monitors upright and have the mixing desk in front of you, rather than the side, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, My original idea was to have the desk facing the window but the reflection killed me. I was going blind! but Should I cover the window so is not bright, move the desk facing the window and add bass traps in every corner, behind me in the wall and ceiling? Would that make a big difference in sound quality?

thanks man

You should close the curtain at the window, have bass traps in the corners (including ceiling edges) and thinner absorption panels in your side first reflection points (where the sound bounces from the speakers into your ears) which can be found using a mirror, on the ceiling (found just like the side FRPs), and on the back wall. You might want to do something about that cupboard too. Maybe a door, or hang a thick curtain with an absorption panel across from it.

Edit: I've just realised, that place doesn't look 10.75' wide. I take it that cupboard is an addition to a rectangular room? I'd probably remove it, if possible. It creates another corner to bass trap.

Yeah, as you can see on the orange wall there's a little built in closet which Im planning to take out of the rooom but after some comments in another forum do you think it might be better to keep the closet and close it with a door or something and keep the room as a rectangle?

here's a pic of the closet and also a drawing of the lay out

let me know what you think

That's a small room...I would take out the closet and use the entire space.

I agree. Symmetry is important too.

If you knock down the closet, then it'd probably be best to face the orange wall. You could also install a full-length heavy curtain across the back wall (wall with the window) and bass traps in all possible corners.

Mmmmmm...I dunno....I think facing the window and letting the monitors fire back towards the orange wall is a better idea since he can place some trapping/diffusion on that orange wall....
...plus, you get a nice view out the window during the day as you mix. ;)

Facing the orange wall...the speakers fire into the window, so it will be that much harder to apply trapping/diffusion to a window (unless of course he decided to cover the window).

+1 to pretty much everything Pandamonk has said so far.

Frank

Here's how I'd set up your room after removing the closet.

Oh and btw, tidy up before taking pics next time. I don't wanna see a big tub of vaseline beside a pc, we all know what it's for! :p

:p :D :p :D

yer killin me :D

anyway, yeah...PandaDudes drawing looks about like what I'd do. And remember...ESPECIALLY in small rooms...bass traps are your friend. ;)

hahaah its just moisture conditioning for hands!! hahah

Yeah, I think pandamonk's idea is good. Im gonna take those 2 walls down and face the orange wall.
