i have a Creative awe64(isa)i use with N-track software.
it does not jive with n-track.(the help file of n-track doesn't even like it)

can someone suggest a true full duplex 16 bit soundcard somewhere in the $49 to $100 range? how about a good cheap 24 bit soundcard?

my use, is as a singer/songwriter building tracks.

thanks-a-lot!

A lot of people seem to be happy with their SBLive!'s...I paid $40 for mine on ebay, and it sounds a helluva lot better than the soundcard that came with my computer..

thanks for the reply! but can ya record real music on it
and it will hold up? i thought about those but want to make sure i can plug audio gear into it.

Umm, well, im not sure what you mean by recording 'real music' on it...It has a line in, just like most other soundcards, so you can plug a mixer or whatever into it... you can only record 1 stereo track at a time, but for $50-$100 you're not gonna be able to do much more than that...

thanks again broken. there are two items in n-track about sound cards. one is about mine and the other is below, about the sb live.will i have to go in and "convert" everytime i record?

(n-track help file)

SoundBlaster Live!
The SoundBlaster Live! Has some lag problems when the sampling frequency used is different than 48000 Hz. This seems to happen because the Live! internally always uses this sampling frequency, so when using other frequencies a sampling rate conversion is required.

Hmm...Im not really sure about this one...I only used N-Track for a short time w/ my old soundcard, so i'm not totally familiar with it...I can tell you that i've had no problem with that using my SBLive and Cool Edit Pro, and I never use 48000, always 44100...But then, there's also a bunch of different 'kinds' of SBLives, so who knows...I obviously don't :)

The SoundBlaster Live runs at 96db which results in rather poor headroom. You're not going to find what you need (at least not new) in the $50-$100 price range. I use an Echo Gina with great results, but it may be to pricey for you. Echo has another 24/96 card it just came out with called the Mia, which I think lists at $299.00. Check out their webiste at http://www.echoaudio.com. It might be wortht he extra bucks.
