Anyone familiar with this? I'm looking for some inexpensive, but adequate software just to use to record my guitar and mic..... got an e-mail add on this one, for $69 and was wondering if it's any good...

Thanks!

At that price go with Ntrack. For a little more get CoolEdit Pro.

I've never heard of that program you mention and as a general rule I never buy anything with the word "my" in the title ;)

You can buy Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 for that price as well. Its pretty much the same thing as Sonar minus some more pro level features. I've been using it for about a year now and love it.

Thanks, brzilian....... is Cake Walk a better option? I just want to record guitar and vocal, as I say.... but I'd like to add some basic effects, I think...I'm not up on this stuff much... just want to record my music and dress it up a little.... will Cake Walk Home Studio do that for me?

Cakewalk won't do anything for you. But you can probably do a lot of things with Cakewalk. Oh man, it's late.
I think they also make a program called Cakewalk GuitarTracks that's sort of designed for the simple guitar-and-vocals type recordist.

"My Sound Studio" - That sounds like it's made by Fischer-Price!
I 2nd the motion for N-Track!

I recall seeing Guitar Tracks... will check it out along with Home Studio. Again, I don't need real fancy stuff.

As to N-tracks... I have that - it works OK for me but, frankly, I have a hell of a time understanding the how to use it.. the help screens are very hard to grasp....maybe its just me...

Any other suggestions welcomed

If you get more feature for the same price, why not get it? That way you have them should the need arise. There are pleanty usefull features in HS2002 like ACID loop support. That way you can lay down drum tracks, etc to go along with your guitar tracks shoud you want to get more elaborate with your work.

Good point.... yes, why not. Although all that I do is acoustic, I WOULD like to learn to add a little drum track, etc... I have no idea what acid loop means, but I suppose I can learn... I'll check out Home Studio.... that sounds good

If you are having trouble with Ntrack I dont know if Cakewalk will be any easier. Anybody out there who knows both programs?

Looking at Cakewalk HS - can anyone suggest whether the XL version is worth the extra cost, or something I may need?

Yes.

Cakewalk is MUCH easier to use right off the bat.

The two interfaces are light years apart - HS2002's interface is the product of years of changes and enhancements (Pro Audio, Sonar...). Things just seem to be where they shoud be.

I actually took advantage of the offer to upgrade from HS2002 to XL earlier this year. For the $40 they charged me, it seemed like a fair deal. I wouldn't pay more than $40 above what HS2002 goes for though if I were starting from scratch. XL really doesn't add too much to what 2002 already has.

Keep in mind I'm not a guitarist - you might actually have a use for the Amp FX plug-ins that come with XL.

Sounds like the upgrade is a good option if I need it later - thanks. I've also looked briefly at their Guitar Tracs product - any info on that one?
