My sound "sounds washed out"; something wrong with my setup?

I have a Peavey diaphram mic (set to -10dB...and the direction seems to make no difference) hooked using XLR to a Behringer Eurorack MX802A mixer running (via a 1/4" L and 1/4" R to 1/8" stereo cable) into my Turtle Beach SantaCruz soundcard. It doesn't seem to matter what software I use (Soundforge, Cakewalk, Acid Pro 4.0, etc)...I always get a low volume recording on the mic (READ: doesn't really get the inflection or depth of my voice...sounds "thin"). The software always says the audio is clipping. How do I need to set the mic and mixer up to get a more full recording? If you want to hear an example of what I'm talking about, go to my website (philwages.com and click on "Music") and listen to some of my MP3s (some are better than others, but that is from digitally adjusting the volume). Any help is certainly appreciated! Phil

Try a different mic, maybe mess with the levels, and in the future if you can, DEFINITELY get an upgrade from that Behringer. I'd think it's the mic. I have a few peavey mics I use for livesound and they're not bad, though.

i'd say its your mic

have you tried getting a condensor mic....i listened to the first song that has 26 next to it. it kinda sounds like your using the same mic for both guitar and vocals. also ease back on the volume and use a little more of the bass on the eq so you can get a more "full" sound out of your voice and then double track the vocal track....maybe triple track it if you need to...thats an idea and dont worry about upgrading from the behringer unless you want to go from the MX to the UB series...i have a UB802 :)
