hi all
i have up untill now only been messing about with normal .wav files to make a few tracks & stuff

i have the sound card that came with the project pack from steinberg

http://www.steinberg.net/products/ct/pc/projectpack/index.phtml?&sid=03179306

will i be able to use midi?
especially in cakewalk 9 ( i am thinking of getting it for midi purposes)

i have tried to look around in my system/multimedia for a clue but not being the most pc literate isnt helping

i would appreciate any help i can get

oh & would i be better off maybe selling this card & getting like a sound blaster live or something
coz i all i basically need a sound card for is to record my dj mix's & to make a few tracks
or would another option be to buy a sound blaster card to go with my curent sound card?

sorry bout all the questions but i am soo confused

thanks
luke

Get a Soundblaster Live card to go with it.....this one wont do Midi........

thanks for the advice gidge

damn now the 'ol student budget takes another knock :(

what kinda price range am i looking at for a decent sound blaster live? that will handle all my needs?

thanks again
luke

You can buy a SB Live! Value for $60 nowadays.

I just saw a SB Live! 5.1 at my local CompUSA yesterday for like $80.

well if you can get away with regualr midi and without SoundFonts of the SBLive, look into the EnsoniqPCI soundcard.....ive seen it as little as $20 US....it may even have better sound than that project card and you can sell it....

Don't buy the Ensonq PCI, its more trouble than its worth. That was the card I was using before the Live card and it had terrible problems in Windows 2000 and Sonar/PA9/Home Studio 2002.

My advice is to stick with cards that are somewhat still supported.

There are WDM drivers available for the Live! series. The Ensoniq is not supported anymore and does not have WDM drivers that make it unusable in Windows 2000 and Sonar.
