This is good. If I was producing you, I'd make you hit your high notes a little more on...but they are certainly acceptable.

I like your voice and the song is right for your voice.

I liked it, nice job friend.

I really like your voice man! This song reminds me of some of the ballads from the 70's.It has that feel to it.Did you double your voice at all?Have you ever heard of Andy Williams? You have hints of him in your voice.Good job!:)

p.s. some harmony vocals on the chorus would sound great.I can hear a lower harmony for sure.

p.s.s. if you forget to put a link in your post like you did with your original post you can go back to the original post and click "Edit" and that will allow you to go back to your message and add the link, correct typos,etc..Just so ya know!:-)

wow Kramer, I doubt I would've placed Andy Williams, but your're right!

clay, this is good, Definitely needs some harmonizing and vocal arrangements. and the 'solo' is a little tough to get through, glad it was short ;)

I like all the pads...

Hey Clay,

Sweet and sentimental crooning tune. If you can, I'd try and make the stops in the intro more dramatic. Boost the d track and make the low end punch through more. I detect a tad too much sibilance on the vox for the smooth, silky vibe you're going for. Try cutting some highs on the vox eq and maybe add a touch of wide open reverb to add to that "memories" feeling.
Just some (not so technical, tech thoughts). I dug the tune a lot. It could drive more in the rhythm and bass section. If you gloss those vox some, it might add to the flavor.

welcome to the forum:)

Theron.

Thanks for the compliments. I thought I knew alot about recording until I read theron's reponse. What do you mean by the d track and the vox eq? Kramer, I definately will add some harmony in the chorus and no, I didn't double the voice anywhere. It's weird how you never really sound that good to yourself.

I was attempting to suggest that you make the drums a bit louder
and take some highs off of the vocal track via equalization.

Hope that clears it up.

Theron.

I agree, the vocals are too crispy sounding and sssss-y. The drum rim shot appears off to the left...Is this intentional?

Really, really nice song! It sounds great through my headphones and high frequency hearing loss, so take the other folks vox eq (voice equalization) advice - I can't really judge.

Only two things really bother me

The D# to D chords in the intro, after the first verse, and before the last verse/outro contain dead space between and after them without even the sense of room ambience in there. They need something to give a feeling of continuity in there (except possibly the ones in the intro could stand as is.) The same progression in the bridge works fine because of the chorus effect behind it.

The other is the "instrument" break - that is really a hokey sound. Personally, I think a flute-like sound with the same "airy" quality the song has would be perfect.

Just my simple-shit opinion. I really like the song.

Like your voice. Sounds like you know what you're doing.

Vocal sounds a little crispy to me in the mix also. Maybe that's what we're going for? Can you describe the path from your voice to disk(mic, preamp, compressor, card or hardware) and any applied effects?

These suggestions are great. Theron, got ya' on the d track. I agree, not sure about the highend EQ on my voice. I don't hear that. Maybe I have high freq. loss like crazydoc. (Seriously). EVERYONE says that violin sucks. I think I'll try crazydoc's flute idea. For erichenryus, the voice path was as follows: AT3035 mic, EQ'd to my preference with no effects directly into my Korg D-1600. At mixdown, I added 50% dry effect only. When mastered, I ran everything through a final effect called Multi-band St. Comp., which I think raised the low end. I wish I understood that more. I used Alesis M1 monitors during mixdown. Thanks everyone.

thanks. i agree on the violin. it definitely sounds not real.

great song by the way. forgot to mention that earlier.

brilliant

very much liked this. Such a nice song. Great name too. i think the chorus is fantastic. Very good singing but that violin didn`t like me much. I think the song sounds like it could be in a movie or something. Its ounds like a classic. thanks

Erland

Thanks, Erland, appreciate your kind words. You've made it unanimous on that violin! Back to the Triton on that one (will probably use the flute idea posted earlier).

Butterflies

Your song has great feeling. I can hear it for background music in a movie, especially about the War Years, or as the credits are scrolling at the beginning or end of the movie. I believe some harmony would add depth to the song, or even a chorus behind you. You have a fine voice and is easy to listen to.

Hey Clay, great! It really does sound like a standard. One thing I might suggest would be better samples overall (not just the violin :) ). Gigasampler, for example, has lots of very good samples which sound pretty real, not quite so synthetic. Would be great, though, to have a real orchestra and everything on this. But, nevertheless, your singing and the song are great.

Thanks Shirleypen and Macle. I wish I knew more about samplers.
How would I utilize that with my Triton Pro, Macle?

The Gigasampler is a software sampler that uses your harddisk to store the sounds, so the samples are much larger (the Gigapiano, for example, is 600mb alone, while most keyboards have maybe a quarter of that for all the sounds combined). I have an Alesis QS8, which I now just use as a controller. I rarely use the sounds in it, and when I do, I usually regret it.

The drag with Gigasampler, though, is getting going with it, optimizing your computer and everything, but for me it was worth it. (Like most computer stuff, it's not complicated at all when it works, only when there are problems.)

Hey Clay,
I really like the new song you posted on Nowhereradio! You have a really unique voice and I saw in your bio that you do liken yourself to Andy Williams.I knew it!:D
