please! give me some help!!

i dont want a PROFESSIONAL sound and perfect room and stuff, i just want my room to isolate the sound well and dont get too much reverb from the wall, so it would be better to pratice and record....

here's my room:

what do i need? u think those waved plaques are the way to go? how many should i put in here and where....

the cheaper the better i wont have money to make a pro thing u know

Marcos.

Marcos,

Those plaques are likely more expensive than absorbers you could build yourself. Note that either of these will not provide sound isolation, just treatment.

The panel absorber designs I referred you to at the SAE site a few posts back are probably your best option. The material at the SAE site was prepared for the do-it-yourself-er; and while it will yield "pro" quality results, it's more affordable than you think. Take a look at the "Studio Plans" section of that site as well to get a feel for the placement of various elements.

u mean those waved plauqes wont do any isolation??dude i though it would, this sucks..

and the problem i cant buy those stuff is becouse i live in brazil so it would be pretty expansive to me and i dont even know if theyll ship u know....
i just have to buy something around here... and i dont wanna make any "reform" on my room, just add some stuff that will isolate/treat the sound..

Marcos,

For definition:

Isolation means you want to keep the sound from escaping from your room to the outside world. In this case you need "sound proofing". To sound proof an existing room you'll need to reinforce your existing walls with things like drywall and resilient channel.

If you just want your room to sound better, but don't care if anyone outside can hear you, you want "sound treatment". For treatment, you can either use the plaques you are talking about (Auralex is a company that makes them and they will probably recommend something specific to your room; and I'm sure they'd ship to Brazil). These will, though, be fairly expensive. You can research your needs and build your own if money is your primary concern. Panels are typically constructed from timber (wood) frames packed with insulation. A good affordable type of insulation to use is mineral wool. I'm pretty sure you can get this in Brazil, as I recall another member on the site (Jeronimo) who was looking for some awhile back.

Start by putting angled absorption panels in the corners of your room (check the SAE site for the design of these). This should help counter some of the low-frequency accumulation in the room. See how your room sounds once these are installed. You'll probably want to balance these with some mid- to high- frequency absorption. For this, build yourself some timber frames that you can attach to the walls. Fill the cavities with mineral wool and stretch/staple fabric across them to hide the insulation. Start with just a few panels and again listen to the change in your room. If it's good, you're done. If not, you'll need to build some more panels -- slot resonator style for the mid & low frequencies; fabric over insulation for the highs.

Good Luck,

Alex

thanx a lot! ure being very helpful.....

so u mean i can build this panels on my own and attach some to the walls, so i dont need my walls covered with extra stuff, just some panels around the room?

Marcos.

ill check out that site again now..

hey alex, where exactly is the link to the "studio plans" section??? I couldn't find it :( :(
