Perfect!!

I always revert to something Ed Van Halen said years ago, "If it sounds good, it is good."

Which is just a variation on the old Joe Meek (the person) bon mot: "If it sounds right, it is right".

Words I live by :D

Which is a variation of MY saying :
"if it sounds great, it is great. "

This is one of the first times on this board I've seen five posts all so positive and agreeing with one another.

So, have I got this right? Good sound is good?

Better yet, ...."If it tastes great, it's also less filling...!"

That reminds me of a poll that was done on two groups of gay men and lesbians on oral sex. The gay men said "tastes great" and the lesbians said "less filling".

Were you thinking of dragonworks when you were reminded of this poll?:p

No, but you gotta admit, this would make a great commercial during a superbowl.:D

Which, in Eddie's case, would be a case of Heiniken(sp)!!

I like the simplicity of "if it sounds good, it is good", but I have two problems with it:

1) It does not do justice to the process of developing an ear for what sounds good. Not that I have done so, but I think even when one does there is an unremoveable element of subjectivity.

2) Most arguments could be settled by invoking it, which doesn't seem to happen.

what's even better is when the material you are singing is a wildcard.

I telll you, I have not seen what makes a mic shine as much as a wildcard. :D

What sounds good to your developed ear might not sound good to anothers developed ear. It's all subjective.

Exactly. So "if it sounds good, it IS good" is really an empty, over-used observation of the obvious?

Which is better than overlooking the obvious!
If it sounds good, shut up.
