It has a weird distortion coming from it....................it's not overdriving.......it sounds like a piece of metal rattling off of another piece of metal?????wierd........admittedly it's on a conga so the diaphragm could be getting overloaded, I'm still experimenting with it

It sounded great with my ol' man's voice which registers at about 7hz :p but it just won't take those loud transient blasts of conga where the SM57 takes it no bother at all

anyone shed some light on my vintage mic prob

I used to use one on congas all the time---in the blow zone below the things. It seriously shouldn't do anything like what you describe....

Any chance the diaphragm is torn? Failing that, I'd look for a loose screw rattling around... possibly stuck to some part of the capsule because of the magnet. :)

hmmmmmmmmmm highly possible. I will look into it & see what is happening in there as it is OLDDDDDDDDDDDDD 1965 approx. I'll find out if the capsule is torn or a screw because it sounds quite good otherwise
