here's a riff I just recorded. I like it. The timing could have been better. I was just getting the idea down though. I did this real quick. I used my v amp2 direct into my firebox. Used beatcraft for the drums and Cubase LE for the recording software. Lemme know what you think.

Dounds pretty cool man. A bit like Candlemass.....pretty cool stuff.

thanks. What's do you think of the guitar tone? I think I did pretty good this time with the guitar sound. I'm also liking beatcraft. Great for demos and stuff. Wish it had MIDI capability so I could trigger the sounds rather than just click on some buttons or if it had a groove quantize or something to humanize it a little. I mean the drums sound good I think, it's just that no real drummer can play in perfect timing like this. And I don't think there is a way to change that. But oh well, it's free for a week and 50 bucks if I wanna keep it.

I like the tone. And as far as drums, it sounds better than an old drum machine, so all is good.

thanks man. I need to starting recording full songs. I have a lot of ideas but nothing finished. That always happens. I'll have a ton of riffs and ideas for song structures and everything but then I can never finish a song because I keep disliking a certain part and changing it around constantly.

Join the crowd man...without some outside guidance, I trash about 30 good starts a week. Never seem to finish anything.

I have a lot of riffs i've kept. I have riffs i've been playing for years. Still havent done much with them lol

I too seem to suffer from artistid ADD. Can't seem to stick to any one project long enough to finish it. On the plus side, that sounds pretty good man. I'm looking at recording some stuff (just on my own, nothing professional) in a similar way, so it bodes well for me.

Pretty cool riff man!
Dogman, don't throw those riffs away - save them and maybe later you can do something with them. I keep a directory full of 'Riff Ideas', and when I am bored I sort the best of them into a directory called 'song ideas'. Then some other time when I am bored, I'll listen to them and if one inspires me, I will start trying to make a song out of it.

Hey Eric, i use beatcraft and record at home...i've been wanting to trade ideas/riffs with somebody online. I like the stuff you posted there and if you're interested i'd like to work on something with ya. I've had some local guys record bass tracks and leads on my songs but i think it'd be cool to branch out. You can click the link below to get an idea of the kinda stuff i've done on my own.

yeah that seems cool. That's what's great with the internet. I can have recording projects with people all around the world. I'll check out your stuff in a sec.

hmm it won't let me play the songs. It just says stopped and when I press play nothing happens.

okay I was able to hear one of the songs you posted in the "some instrumental metal" thread you made. Cool stuff. I play more black/doom metal stuff with synth but that's what I do for my solo stuff. No point in doing that with another person if i'm already doing it alone. I'd be interested in doing something with you. We can just toss riffs at each other and build from there and see what happens.

Oh, I don't really throw them away....when I get about 4Gb of them in a folder, I put them on DVD. Some have actually gotten finished, but not very many. I've got about 9 floating around with differentpeople right now, and some are actually making progress.

But, I guess this is all part of the process. And no matter what, it's still fun. And I love to hear other people seem to do the same thing. :D

sounds cool to me. the way i see it, we're almost guaranteed to come up with stuff that neither one of us would've thought of on our own. I've learned alot more jamming with people who have a different musical direction than myself, than i have from working with guys who have similar ideas. I'll PM ya about getting started.
