Well, I haven't been in a band since June of 99 and thought I had it out of my system. Of course I was wrong. I hooked up with some pretty decent players and Momma says I can do it again as long as I behave  . They came over tonight and I just turned on the multitrack and let it run. This track was spontainious. The piano player/vocalist obviously knew it but the rest of us were pulling it out of our asses. This is it, no edits, just a little reverb. Bath Water Blues.

Well, starts out pretty nice, and continues from there....Actually sounds well mixed. Man, I hope you dig being in a band, cuz if I were in this situation...I'd be in heaven....I only dream of playing with real people, in the same room. I've done a few collabs, and enjoyed it so much. I really hope to do some more soon, but that can't compare to playing like this.....

Cool song. Nice tones all around. Bass has it's own space, and everything does sit really well. Has a great live feel, but also lots of tone to it.

Very good blues "groove". Really nice bass, keyboards, guitar. The snare could be a little more visible. Ditto for the cymbals. Cymbals do sound muffled. But that's 'coz it's live.

Good vocalist.

sounds real good Track.. especially for a live recording.. is this an old blues cover? I really like the lyric "I'll drink your bathwater woman" :D sounds like a good blues band you have.. that singer sounds a bit like Lt.Bob..

Thanks gentlemen. Sam, real good to hear from you my friend. I don't know if it's a cover or not. I'll ask Curtis when he gets here in a couple of hours. I'd never heard it before he counted four. He was telegraphing the changes on the fly. I can't wait till I actually LEARN some of these tunes.

The recording sounds great ,but the guy that wrote those lyrics is one twisted S.O.B.

LOL. :)

I was about to say that also when I realized, nobody listen to the blues for the lyrics. In my opinion, it's mostly either the mood or voice and overall intonation of the performer. I could be very wrong on that. But that's just my opinion.

For a "spur of the moment" recording, this sounds pretty coordinated and well rehearsed. In other words, I think that band works well together.

My co-worker has a studio in his home and we all gathered there one night. After a while of "what can we play", we were all like, let's do a "CFG" progression. And everyone was going at their own tempo at their own volume and so on. It wasn't long before we realized how to better utilize the beer and the hot-tub. :)

Now thats my kind of music...........

Love it. Thats going on my Rio.

Good blues man. Great set o' vox on your singer. Nice git-fiddle work too!
Well mixed and pretty tight for a first time!!

Love the concept of the song. It sounds great sonically. The bass is taking up all the right frequencies, but maybe it could come down a dB...I like the reverb. Definitely brings it all together. The drumset is captured masterfully. Great performances all around.

Blow us all away with a serious mix, Track Rat!

nice.. nice bass sound too. Is that you on a tele? ...and where is the gtr solo, dude??!!

LMAO at the "butter my toast with the bathtub ring" line. And the "pass the cup" line at the very end... kills me. Tight band and very nice live recording.

Sounds very good for a live recording. Any woman whose bathwater is like lemonade probably needs to get checked out, though.

LOL! I guess that's similar to a golden shower.

My wife gave it a listen and she just looked at me and shook her head and said "you musicains are all alike aren't you?"
Mixmkr, that's my new Samick SAT650. It's a 335 copy and my new favorite guitar.
I thank you folks for the kind words. I just finished another practice/recording session. Another 4 hours of recording to listen through. I haven't felt this jazzed about playing with a group in years. It's ALMOST better than sex.

way cool Mr TR

...after that much time, you been overdue for the sweet juicy fruit. :)

I'd be interested in the gear details if you'd care to elaborate ... signal chains, positioning.

Sure Tim. Drums are an old set of Ludwigs with a 24" kick. I have a D-112 in the kick to a Mackie 1202 to the HD24. Rack toms and floor tom are SM-57s to a HHB Radius 10 to recorder. Snare for this cut was a MD-441 to a Envoice Mindprint but that's been changed. The snare wasn't cutting it so I put up a Yamaha snare I had laying around and changed the mic to an AKG C-1000 and put the 441 up as a vocal mic for the drummer as it has a tight pattern to help keep the drums out of that mic. The overheads I used a single KM-184 to the HHB to recorder. The organ is an Alesis QS-8 direct to a DBX-386 to recorder. Bass is a Fender P bass through a SWR amp. I miked the cab with a Octava MK-012 with an omni cap to another channel on the Mackie 1202. Guitar is my Samick through a Revera Pubster but I bypassed the 10" speaker and used an external 15" Klipsh and miked that with an MK-012 with an omni cap too. Vocal was a MK-319 through an HHB Radius 5 to recorder.

Thanks Mike. Very instructive to listen to a good sounding track like this knowing some of the tech details. Kudos for handling the engineering so well while also playing.
