Mic Test Results 603/2001/ECM8000

Well, I received 6 mics from UPS yesterday, 2 of which were double shipped (for free I might add). I won't say the name of the company in case a salesman is reading this post. :p

I received 4 ECM8000's (instead of 2), and the 603/2001 mic package.

I played the same song with the same acoustic in the same postion. Same trim, same mixer on the same channel, flat and no FX.

suprising to me, I found of the three mics (for this application) the Behringer sounded the cleanest and gave me the most accurate sound. I don't have a studio right now so I can't try them as overheads on drums or for a room mic for loud guitar. But for this application, the Behringer took the race! I'm going to pull out a C3000B, SM87 and the TLM103 next to to see if the B even comes close. I'm not a big fan of the C3000B already! I have two of those and they're just OK.

Do I really need 4 ECM8000's?

Hmmmmm......Behringer! Who'd of thought?

I originally bought my ECM's to use as overheads but I've been experimenting and I'm beginning to like 'em on guitar cabs as well especially for solos. If I had a good acoustic they would work for that too but they are a little too revealing for my cheapies. Too flat for vocal work IMHO.

Did you like them as OH's? What were you using before the 8000's?

Thanks,

They work great for overheads if you like a very open, roomy sound. Of course almost anything would be better than the RS 33-1070D's (Shure omni dynamics) I was using before. Those worked OK with my TASCAM 414 but the ECM's are on a whole 'nother level. I've always liked omnis for overs (minimal phase issues) and open-back guitar cabs though the ECM's are working on the closed cabs as well because of the flat response.

Nope.

Two is plenty.

All you need is two Marshall mxl 603s.

Or Oktava MC012s.

And the truth shall set you free. :D

Trust me on this one. You will thank me down the road, I promise.

Actually, the 603 I got with this shipment is my second one! I now have two (or 4) ECM8000's, two 603's and two C3000B's to try as overheads or ?
I like having multiple pairs of mics. Now I can concentrate on a pair of 4033's.

You don't need 'em.

Why not? Are you saying that they're identical in sound to the 603s or the ecm8000s? I don't get what you mean by this post.

I don't see what they're going to give anyone that already has a pair of 603s and 8000s. Maybe if he likes them for guitar cabs (?) or to have an extra vocal mic, I suppose.
