I'm messing around with a piece of audio. I count 36 beats. I paste the audio into Cake, but how do I figure the beats at 4/4 so it comes out to 9 measures (okay so it is medieval chant)? Does fit to time help? (I couldn't quite get it to work) If I just change tempo, it tries to stretch or shrink the audio... can I turn that off? Thanks in advance (been working with Cakewalk for 10 years.. never even tried anything like this before).

Calculating the temp is simple if you know the number of beats and the length in minutes of the clip. Divide # of beats by number of minutes, that gives you BPM. Example: say you have 36 beats and it takes 30 seconds. 30 seconds is half a minute. So 36 divided by .5 is 72 bpm.

To stretch the audio, select the audio and then choose Edit->Audio Effects->Cakewalk FX->Time/Pitch Stretch. The time and the pitch can be stretched independently. The parameters you can select should be self-explanatory. If not, try the Cakewalk Help system.
