If you'll notice, Jamal did achieve a semi-successful edit of his post one minute after mine. But as I'm writing this...hehehe..he only corrected ONE of the typos.

Let's see if the other one stays.

.........cool song man. You slide right into that blink sound. I dont really have anything to add songwise....... strong stuff. Your vocals fit this style of music perfectly. There are some things you can do in the recording to make the song stronger. First off, BASS! I can hardly hear it. A good picked bass tone would work great in this. ........w/ lotsa attack and pluck to it. I might try a different snare sound too. ....one w/ a little more crack to it. You have all of the tools for this genre man. Great stuff.

man...if i only knew a guy with killer bass skills who would be cool enough to just lay down a massive bass line and send it to me....man that would be sweet.
 
I just love your writing. Another great job on that. "A better hair care plan..." Great line. Liked the tune as well.

The vocals sound a bit muffled here. How did you record them. Pitch issue at :28? At some other spots too. The harmonies kind of land with a thud here and there. The lead at about 2:12 is way too far back.

Ok I'm picking on you too much. From a writing standpoint I still really like your stuff. Trip...
 
Hey jamal, sounds good. I think on those Blink type songs they compress and double and tune the shit out of the vocals. I don't know if that's what you'd wanna do, but it might make the vocals sit in with guitars for that modern punk type sound.

ok to any of the three people who are following this thread.....i have yet another mix up at nowhere....i dunno......maybe its better.....maybe i should just focus on gardening instead?....

oh and trip m:...thanks man.....again this was a really short amount of time tracking....i need to buckle down and try harder...but i also need to do alot of things ...lol..

check out www.drumagog.com I have an experiment where I used only midi drums and then drumagogged em...even the FLAMS sound real..this is an AWESOME plugin! I have been busting my ass making samples for drumagog so I got some if you need. There are some near decent ones on their site too...

I think with better drums, the rest of the mix will become obvious. The engergy is all there and thats what matters

Drums on the 3rd version sounded much better than the earlier ones and the last one. The last one sounded like the drums were coming through a transistor radio. I'm also hearing distortion on the drums at the loudest points on both of the last 2 versions.

If you're having a problem with everything trying to be heard in the mix, you might wanna try turning your tracks down a little, believe it or not. If you just keep nudging everything up then eventually you run outta room. Sometimes if you back everything off a little and turn the stereo main up louder it gives you better control and the extra headroom.

Highpass filters can give you a lot of extra headroom too, by removing stuff you don't need in the mix and making more room for the stuff you do want. The guits could probably get by fine with a low-end cut which would give a little more breathing room for the bass to cut through.

If the distortion isn't in the source track and it's not because you're trying to push the level too hard, it might be from over compressing the drums. In that case it's easy to fix, just don't do that.

It'll be easier to dial in the rest once you get everything at a nice level without anything distorting. Now's a good time to make friends with the EQ tools you have at your disposal. There should at least be a parametric built-in to CEP. Do you have any other EQ plugins?
 
Ok, looks like cep 1 only allows DX in the two track editor, but you can still work it...just one track at a time. CEP2 I think lets you use realtime fx in the mix windwo

Looks like drumagog has a free demo!!!
 
I really can't comment very much on the mix at 128 Kbps. I seem to only be able to play stuff that I can download. Can't stream for some reason. So when I hit the + sign I got a 128 Kbps version and everything on the high end got destroyed. Maybe that's this new soundblaster card? I don't know, but I'll figure that out later.

So I like the song a lot. Sounds very radio pop like. Clever lyrics also. All your stuff is very good imo.
 
Cool tune. The guitars sound pretty good on the version I listened to. Sounds like you're getting good advice on the drum thing. That and low bass are the only weak points and I'd bet mixing on home stereo speakers doesn't make it any easier. Again, very cool tune.
 
Jeez jamal... go rob a bank and get a nice signal chain, and you'd really be up there with the big boys! Chris Harris will of course offer free legal counsel when you are caught; he might even be able to keep you out of Maximum Security (Fort Fudgepacker) Prison :D

What I mean is, THIS IS A GOOD SONG... your singing is good, and this is actually a few steps more creative than the scene it seems like it was born from (the Blink/Sum/Lit scene)... if you could just get a nice sounding set of drums there this would shine...

They DO sound better, and without having the actual tracks at hand, I'd guess they're probably mixed as well as you could at any rate.

Now shave your balls and go rent some studio time. There'z DRUM TRAX to lay down ;)

ok.....OK....yes the drums suck......so ...i retracked the drums....better sound..(i think)...they still dont knock the wind out of me yet....but they are tons better....right???


..and guernica was cool enough to lay down a GOOD bass line ..this version still has my suck-ass one in it....

man i hope you guys like this version of drums better ....im running out of ideas here....but im glad some of you stuck with me to see if this actually gets better.....
