ahoy thar,

I have a problem with my "g" string. it keeps breaking!!!!!!!

i change my strings twice per month and the g string only lasts for about a week. i tried replacing it with a different brand and the same thing happened. there aren't any visible burrs anywhere, and the pegs are new.

it's an acoustic guitar with dr strings, medium gauge. i hope somebody knows what's wrong because it's ruining my life.

thanks.

p.s. you might be tempted to make an unfunny remark about my "g-string," but that would be predictable and a little retarded. let me steer you away from those distinctions in advance.

your friend,
bradlee z.

Buy some 000(0) steel wool and give some attention to the bridge contact points, that should help, I`ve had the same problem.

And ......... ( insert retarded comment here:_____________________):D ;)

There is some graphite stuff you can put in the nut. Is the string breaking up there or at the bridge?

Ya where is it breaking???

*insert joke* (including the use of graphite stuff on nuts)

it's breaking just a bit past the bridge.

...should've mentioned that before

thanks

As far as "that graphite stuff" , number two pencil lead will do nicely. Use a matchbook striker to make graphite dust over the slots.

okay, thanks for the tips. i restrung this morning, using a combination of the ideas mentioned. we'll see how long it lasts.

now that i'm a senior member, there're going to be some changes around here. first of all, jamal: lose that picture. you're mocking one of our nation's treasures. second of all, my tummy hurts.

thanks

I really can't believe how may jokes DIDN'T make it to this thread.

toker, agreed.

in my experience, contact points that snap strings are caused by wear-in from said strings (unless they were string-breakers stock), and a little light, careful filing will fix it.
