Hi guys.

i have done a bit of recording before but want to start my own home studio. Mainly i will be recording bands but one musician at a time and and solo singer/songwriters. In the past i have recorded on my friends Tascam portastudio and uploaded the individual tracks onto my computer and mixed and edited with free sofware on my PC. To record drums in the past i have taken one track and eq'd it to bring out each individual part and mix them together which has worked reasonably well.
www.freewebs.com/thequin and play Put it to You for my best mixed song using that set up.

Anyway as i don't always have access to the tascam i want my own equipment and this is what i have come up with so far after months of research.

£60 for a behringer FCA 202 firewire interface
£90 for a behringer ub1204 mixer
£90 fir a behringer b2 pro microphone

I am micing guitars, vocals, drums and bass so no DI needed

the question is is this set going to be good enough for now till i can upgrade. I purposefully chose this kind of se o expand in the future. Also which software would be best for me to use. Built in software mixer i think is needed and allows for mastering.

Many Thanks

It will be Ok but for the money I believe that you can do better.

I am by no means an expert but I got great help on

www.tweakheadz.com

This site will help you emensley.

You may want to also look into a multitrack recorder.

Oh and the microphone you can certinally do better for the money.

Thanx for the reply.

I have had a change of heart since i posted that. I would decide against the option of a multrack recorder. (if your talking about a siab) due to high intial cost, lack of midi and lack of ability to expand.

What i have decided to get for the moment is a firewire audio inerface as i already have a couple of mics to get me going and instead of a mixer i will get a multiple input so i can record drums on seperate tracks etc. at least 4 simultaneous mic inputs with phantom power and preferably midi i/o as well.

i really really do not want to spend anymore than £500 but would prefer closer to £300. If someone could tell me the best in this ctergory and for the purpose i would be using it for.

Thanks

Why not get the Presonus Firepod on ebay here for £375. The preamps are meant to be great for the money. I think it has Midi i/o too. It allows for 8 tracks to be recorded simultaniously
